Bodega Bay Restaurant

For Villa guests who want to venture to the town of Bodega Bay, we often recommend lunch at the Sandpiper Restaurant, right on the water's edge. The Sandpiper has been around for 40+ years, serving locals and visitors great -- and fresh -- seafood, such as: smoked salmon quesidilla, pesto salmon, fried oysters, and much, much more. The Sandpiper's signature dish, though, is it's clam chowder, and if you want, you can even buy a "Please don't eat the chowder" t-shirt (cause then they run out!!!). Enjoy!

Winery Friends of the Villa

Many people love staying at the Sonoma Coast Villa & Spa because they don't have to leave -- we have everything on site, including a wonderful restaurant, spa treatments, and pool. Many, though, do like to venture out, particularly to the nearby Sonoma County wineries which are only a short distance from us. We're happy to give you directions and suggestions.

One of favorite wineries is Balletto Estate Vineyards. This is a small, family-run winery which makes high-quality wines. Their vineyards are in the Russian River Valley designation. Again, you can enjoy Balletto wines at the Sonoma Coast Villa... or take a drive there yourself!

Statues

Like most Mediterranean villas, throughout our grounds you'll find all kinds of interesting statues, terra cotta pots, and fountains. You really will feel like you're in Tuscany--without the passport!

Our Pool

Yes, the ocean is only a few minutes away from the Villa. The ocean though can be (even in summer) a bit breezy, even chilly. For those of you who want to soak up some sun and enjoy the water, you'll enjoy our outdoor pool. It's a great place to relax, read, or simply chat with that special person in your life. Daily Wine Tasting

Yes, we have many of Sonoma County's wonderful wineries a short drive from the Villa. But for those of you who love the idea of staying here and just r-e-l-a-x-i-n-g (you know who you are!), now we're bringing the wineries to you. Everyday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. we make wine tasting available to our guests. This is a wonderful way to try some of our local wines... without leaving the comfort of the Villa!

P.S. We also make available our "tasting menu" should you want some food with your tasting. Menu items include Bodega Bay garlic shrimp, a Sonoma onion quiche, and much more!

Our $25,000 Bottle of Champagne!

We love a great story, particularly when it comes to food and wine, and here's a COOL one.

In 1990, Sonoma Coast Villa owner/innkeeper Johannes Zachbauer purchased a special edition of a Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne release. Only 2,000 bottles of the special 2000 vintage -- created for the coming millennium -- were produced. Johannes purchased number 0916: his wedding anniversary date (Sept. 16). Of the 2,000 bottles produced, this is the only remaining bottle currently in the United States. It has an estimated value of $25,000! Talk about FUN!

A few other facts:

~ Johannes has an official "Certificate of Ownership" (see pic at right)

~ The bottle is HUGE; it's what's called a Mathusalem, which is six liters, or 8 bottle of champagne

~ Louis Roederer is one of the largest remaining independent champagne makers. Located just south of Reims, France, Louis Roederer was tapped by Tsar Nicholas II to provide champagne to the Imperial Court of Russia. It was through these efforts that Roederer developed the clear, or "crystal" bottle and gold label the company is known for today.
