We're lucky to have only minutes away from the Sonoma Coast Villa & Spa a wonderful award-winning golf course: The Links at Bodega Harbour. The recently remodeled Robert Trent Jones Jr. design features:

Fun at the Villa

Our food and wine events this past weekend at the Sonoma Coast Villa were quite fun. Certified natural chef Monica Sallouti prepared two dishes (a salsa and a kale salad), led us on a discussion of local Gravenstein apples, and answered questions. Our guests also enjoyed wines from Balletto Vineyards. The Villa is a great location for "foodies"; not only do we offer a wonderful breakfast and dinner, we can offer private or group cooking classes/demos, prepare special meals, and we even offer in-room dining for the ultimate romantic pampering treat!

Food and Wine Fun!

Just a reminder that this Friday and Saturday will be our first food and wine events here at the Villa. Certified Natural Chef Monica Sallouti will be a doing a cooking demo and talk, and our friends from Balletto Vineyards will be sharing their award-winning wine. Each day the event runs from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and includes salad, tasting, wine, tours, and demos. Cost is $18.95 per person; Sonoma Coast Villa guests receive a two-for-one.

YOU: The Owner's Manual

The Sonoma Coast Villa & Spa is a fantastic place for authors, writers, and artists to get away -- be quiet, and think or create. We always enjoy when a published author visits us. Recently, we had Michael Roizen, M.D. stay with us, who is the co-author of the book YOU: The Owner's Manual. This is a great guide to becoming healthier and younger looking and feeling. We were especially appreciative that Dr. Roizen found our food tasty and healthy.

Dinner at the Villa

During your stay at the Sonoma Coast Villa, we suggest that you dine with us! Each evening from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., you can order a prix fixe dinner which includes organic mixed salad, a choice of entrees, choice of side dishes, and dessert. Let our professionally-trained chef guide on a tasting adventure! Typical entrees can include seared Bodega Bay sea scallops, organic Sonoma rack of lamb with mint sauce, and New York steak with rosemarie. Sides dishes include grilled organic vegetables, roasted potatoes, and portabella mushrooms. All dishes are made with fresh, local ingredients, and we make everything from scratch. We also offer a large selection of local red and white wines, and of course, champagne! Visitors to the Villa can dine in our beautifully situated dining room, or in the privacy of your private Villa. We look forward to seeing you -- and serving you -- soon!

Nearby Town: Occidental

A cute town to visit during your stay at the Sonoma Coast Villa and Spa is Occidental. It's about a 15 minute drive from the coast inland, and includes passing through a redwood forest. Occidental has shops and restaurants, and, on Fridays, a great little farmer's market. Also, we've just learned that one of the Victorian houses in the downtown area is being rennovated into a new dining establishment -- the Barley and Hops Tavern -- with an expected opening date sometime this July. Check out the new owner's blog if you'd like a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to remodel, refurbish, and launch a new restaurant/tavern!

Famous People...And Events

Yes, the Sonoma Coast Villa and Spa makes a great getaway for the couple seeking quiet and romance. Yet our Villa is large enough to also accommodate small groups for corporate meetings and such. Over the years, we've hosted many organizations, from the folks at Victoria's Secret to the motivational speaking team of Joe Montana and Tom Mitchell. In fact, their group will be staying with us later this month. Clients love the Villa because we have everything here on site: comfortable and classy rooms, a full-service restaurant, and of course our spa. We hope to see your group here soon.

Bodega Bay Restaurant

For Villa guests who want to venture to the town of Bodega Bay, we often recommend lunch at the Sandpiper Restaurant, right on the water's edge. The Sandpiper has been around for 40+ years, serving locals and visitors great -- and fresh -- seafood, such as: smoked salmon quesidilla, pesto salmon, fried oysters, and much, much more. The Sandpiper's signature dish, though, is it's clam chowder, and if you want, you can even buy a "Please don't eat the chowder" t-shirt (cause then they run out!!!). Enjoy!

Winery Friends of the Villa

Many people love staying at the Sonoma Coast Villa & Spa because they don't have to leave -- we have everything on site, including a wonderful restaurant, spa treatments, and pool. Many, though, do like to venture out, particularly to the nearby Sonoma County wineries which are only a short distance from us. We're happy to give you directions and suggestions.

One of favorite wineries is Balletto Estate Vineyards. This is a small, family-run winery which makes high-quality wines. Their vineyards are in the Russian River Valley designation. Again, you can enjoy Balletto wines at the Sonoma Coast Villa... or take a drive there yourself!

Statues

Like most Mediterranean villas, throughout our grounds you'll find all kinds of interesting statues, terra cotta pots, and fountains. You really will feel like you're in Tuscany--without the passport!

Our Pool

Yes, the ocean is only a few minutes away from the Villa. The ocean though can be (even in summer) a bit breezy, even chilly. For those of you who want to soak up some sun and enjoy the water, you'll enjoy our outdoor pool. It's a great place to relax, read, or simply chat with that special person in your life. Daily Wine Tasting

Yes, we have many of Sonoma County's wonderful wineries a short drive from the Villa. But for those of you who love the idea of staying here and just r-e-l-a-x-i-n-g (you know who you are!), now we're bringing the wineries to you. Everyday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. we make wine tasting available to our guests. This is a wonderful way to try some of our local wines... without leaving the comfort of the Villa!

P.S. We also make available our "tasting menu" should you want some food with your tasting. Menu items include Bodega Bay garlic shrimp, a Sonoma onion quiche, and much more!

Our $25,000 Bottle of Champagne!

We love a great story, particularly when it comes to food and wine, and here's a COOL one.

In 1990, Sonoma Coast Villa owner/innkeeper Johannes Zachbauer purchased a special edition of a Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne release. Only 2,000 bottles of the special 2000 vintage -- created for the coming millennium -- were produced. Johannes purchased number 0916: his wedding anniversary date (Sept. 16). Of the 2,000 bottles produced, this is the only remaining bottle currently in the United States. It has an estimated value of $25,000! Talk about FUN!

A few other facts:

~ Johannes has an official "Certificate of Ownership" (see pic at right)

~ The bottle is HUGE; it's what's called a Mathusalem, which is six liters, or 8 bottle of champagne

~ Louis Roederer is one of the largest remaining independent champagne makers. Located just south of Reims, France, Louis Roederer was tapped by Tsar Nicholas II to provide champagne to the Imperial Court of Russia. It was through these efforts that Roederer developed the clear, or "crystal" bottle and gold label the company is known for today.
